RUNA is a software platform dedicated to facilitate payroll, human resources and benefits processes specially designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Mexico. This tool has become essential for thousands of companies that use it to manage payroll payments and maintain efficient administrative processes. RUNA handles approximately one billion dollars annually in payroll payments, making it a preferred option for many companies due to its efficiency and ease of use.
RUNA's founder, Corny, chose to establish her company in Latin America because of the abundant business opportunities in the region. Despite having studied at Stanford and being born in the United States, she chose to settle in Latin America because of its attractive lifestyle and proximity to family. Corny sees more potential opportunities in this region compared to the United States, given that many industries are still developing, which allows for pioneering in several sectors such as education, healthcare and payroll technology.
Contrary to the common quest to emigrate, Corny found a better quality of life in Latin America. He points out that in the U.S. people are always looking to climb to the next level, but in LATAM people really enjoy their day-to-day life, valuing aspects that in other parts of the world go unnoticed. She also highlights that in regions like Mexico, family support is fundamental, which has been crucial in her journey as a founding mother.
Corny believes that working remotely from Latin America for companies in Silicon Valley is a great benefit because of the competitive pay. However, she acknowledges that the migration of talent to places like Mexico City has generated a rich cultural exchange, even though, she says, it even affects the level of spice in the local cuisine.
Selling software in Latin America poses unique challenges due to resistance to the shift to digital platforms. Corny mentions that in the beginning he encountered companies that preferred paper presentations rather than virtual demos. This mentality, influenced by outdated practices, represents the need to educate and modernize industries stuck in the past.
Corporate culture still presents challenges stemming from outdated practices. Corny highlights the distrust of new technologies, especially in sensitive areas such as payroll. However, when companies experience problems with their current system, such as fraud, they are more likely to turn to modern solutions like RUNA to avoid future problems.
The main goal for RUNA is to grow exponentially, achieving massive market adoption and eventually going public. Corny's ambition is for RUNA to become a milestone in the Latin American tech market, encouraging more technology companies to emerge and be innovative.
In a context of growing demand for technological solutions, Corny emphasizes the importance of involving more professionals in the sector, encouraging the development and adoption of disruptive technologies. He stresses that the inclusion of technology in basic business needs, such as payroll, is key to increasing efficiency and competitiveness, closing the gap with prominent countries in the industry.
This content seeks to provide a unique and detailed perspective on the challenges and opportunities presented by entrepreneurship in Latin America, especially in the field of payroll technology. With RUNA as an example of innovation and adaptation, it offers an inspiring guide for those interested in exploring the potential of this dynamic region.
