How to reinvent a personal mission?

Reinventing a personal mission may seem like a monumental challenge. However, it is an exciting opportunity to forge a new path! My experience taught me that even after working at pioneering places like Platzi, finding a meaningful purpose can be more difficult than expected. I left Platzi with excellent credentials, but found myself without a mission that was as fulfilling. As I navigated this transition, I decided to create my own mission and pursue a dream that had haunted me for years: to grow disc golf in Mexico and Latin America, with the hope of one day making it an Olympic sport.

What steps do you take to create your own mission?

  • Reflect on your old dreams: Often, our true passions may be hidden in dreams that we have relegated to the back of our priorities. Finding that dream will provide you with a beacon to guide your efforts.

  • Establish a clear strategy: Designing a strategy not only provides you with a path to follow, but also allows you to align your skills and resources with the desired goal.

  • Seek win-win opportunities: Using your skills to benefit others while achieving your personal goals can amplify the impact of your actions. In my case, I decided to use my knowledge of business growth to collaborate with disc golf brands, integrating my personal aspirations with their business objectives.

How do you attract opportunities in your desired industry?

Understanding and capturing opportunities in the sector you are passionate about is key to moving forward. I identified my sector of interest and decided to attack the market by presenting a strategic video that served as my pitch.

What elements should an effective pitch have?

  • A good hook: Capture attention from the start with bold and confident statements, such as expressing your intention to introduce disc golf in Latin America.

  • Hard data to back up your claims: Offering statistics and economic projections introduces credibility and demonstrates understanding of the market.

  • External validation: Involving people who support your project can provide social support and validation.

  • A clear call to action: Clearly stating the next step you expect from the recipient is critical, which eases the transition from presentations to concrete action.

How to expand an emerging sport into new regions?

Once underway, the next step is to implement concrete actions to expand the sport. I joined Dynamic Discs as International Media Director with the goal of growing disc golf, where I saw the opportunity to make an impact at a regional level by creating audiovisual content and sponsoring local talent.

What are the strategies used to promote disc golf?

  • Creating engaging content: We generated a system that allowed us to produce at least six videos for various YouTube channels, highlighting our sponsored players.

  • Launching commemorative products: We focused on the Hispanic and emerging Latin American market to foster a cultural connection.

  • Construction of public fields: We implemented free fields in key Latin American cities, facilitating access and dissemination of the sport.

  • Sponsoring local players: Sponsoring local players not only helps promote the sport, but also establishes a competitive presence using Dynamic Discs products.

These actions not only helped expand the sport, but created a vibrant community around disc golf, ensuring that more people can discover, learn and fall in love with the sport.
