Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and the object of the sentence are the same person or thing. They can serve as objects or complements to a sentence.
Reflexive pronouns end in "-self" (singular) or "-selves" (plural).
Example as an object of a sentence:
- “During the meeting, John reminded himself to stay focused.”
As Complements of the Preposition
When the subject and the object of a preposition are the same, use a reflexive pronoun.
- “The consultant was proud of himself for successfully implementing the new system.”
Here, "The consultant" is the subject, and "himself" is the complement of the preposition "of."
