Measuring the performance of an application is essential to ensure its success and user satisfaction. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are essential tools that allow to objectively evaluate different aspects of a digital platform's performance. In the case of delivery applications such as SaborApp, these indicators are crucial to optimize the user experience and maximize business results.

What are KPIs and why are they important?

KPIs are key performance indicators that measure fundamental aspects of an application. They are not just any metrics, but those that really matter to evaluate the performance of the platform. In the context of user experience, KPIs are mainly focused on measuring two fundamental aspects:

  • Satisfaction: assesses how happy users are with the application.
  • Efficiency: determines how well the application works to fulfill its purpose.

A concrete example of a KPI is load time, which measures how long it takes for an application to be fully available to the user. In the specific case of SaborApp (a platform for ordering food), this indicator would measure how long it takes for the application to load all its elements: buttons, interfaces, images and content.

Types of KPIs for applications

KPIs can be classified into three main categories, each focused on different aspects of an application's performance:

  1. Business KPIs: these exclusively measure aspects related to revenue and profitability. A prominent example is Customer Lifetime Value, which calculates how much money a customer generates throughout his or her relationship with the company.

  2. Experience KPIs: These evaluate the satisfaction and effectiveness of the application from the user's perspective. A typical example is the CSAT(Customer Satisfaction Score ), which directly measures how satisfied users are.

  3. Performance KPIs: These focus on the technical performance of the application. The loading time mentioned above is a classic example of this type of KPI.

How does SaborApp work and what KPIs might it need?

SaborApp is a food delivery platform operating in several Colombian cities such as Bogota, Cartagena and Barranquilla. The user flow is fairly standard for this type of application:

  1. The user browses through different available restaurants.
  2. Selects products and adds them to the cart
  3. Can modify his order in the cart
  4. Proceeds to checkout where he/she
    • Accepts terms and conditions
    • Enter your address
    • Select payment method
  5. Finalize the order (login required if you are not logged in)
  6. Order is processed and shipped to the restaurant

Considering this flow, some relevant KPIs for SaborApp could include:

  • Business KPIs: average order value, purchase frequency, conversion rate of visitors to buyers.
  • Experience KPIs: Satisfaction with the ordering process, ease of use reported by users.
  • Performance KPIs: Application load time, response time between screens, application stability.

The identification of the specific KPIs most relevant to SaborApp is a topic that requires a deeper analysis, considering the particular business objectives and the needs of its users.

KPIs are powerful tools to continuously improve an application. By identifying and monitoring the right indicators, developers and business owners can make data-driven decisions that improve both user experience and business results. What other KPIs do you consider important for a food delivery app? Share your opinion in the comments.
