If you have a good diagnosis it is easier to find a solution. In medicine, a good diagnosis gives the guideline on how to treat the disease. If you don't have it, you can't apply a healing strategy and even if you apply some medicine, you can cause more harm than good to the patient.
The same applies to innovation. Without an accurate diagnosis we will act blindly and our actions will have no directionality, let alone impact. We cannot project ourselves into the future.
Diagnosis makes it possible to align development
When we talk about an innovation agency for economic development, it is very important to know where we are starting from.
You must take into account how your region is in terms of: 1. Talent 2. Business capabilities and proposals 4. Knowledge transfer from the university to the market 5. Innovation from universities
Ecosystem by design
The development that starts from a diagnosis must be sustainable. This is possible thanks to what Ruta N has called "ecosystem by design".
When Ruta N began its work, it noticed that there was a lot of repetition in some organizations about what they had to develop. And it detected that three fundamental elements were missing:
Lack of economic resources, they also did not know how to obtain these resources through investment2. They did not have knowledge that would take them to the next level of business model development3. They had a hard time reading local capabilities and how to scale them.
It then developed specific tactics, programs and projects that would help develop these three elements.
Ruta N also worked to attract foreign companies and talent to help fill the gaps. Some people went abroad for training so that they could replicate the experience here.
Finally, it made a diagnosis of the public policies that favored innovation processes in capital, infrastructure, talent, business capabilities and investment funds.
Some recommendations before closing
We have reached the end of the first module. Now is your moment. Download the diagnostic form that we have left in the resources section. Fill it out on your computer after having analyzed the situation in your region. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments box.
Take into account the following:- Do it slowly - Identify the population, describe it very clearly - The justification must include quantitative data and must include the participation of the State in the problem you want to work on - Identify causes and effects - Have prioritization criteria. You will have an avalanche of issues and problems, but the data should help you prioritize.
