Rude Hand Gestures: The V sign

I share a comparation video about different UK hand signs vs similar positive ones. In the case
the V means “piss off” and it’s an insult if you’re English. *I share with the purpose of expant the cultural knowledge.

I would say, when socializing, don’t be too intrusive in the personal life of your partners/coworkers, that’s not good in some cultures as it could be “normal” in latin american cultures.

Jessharris, according with the punctuality, I lived that experience once in some meetings with my boss, he was very angry with the employes that got very late after 15 min after the begining. Regards!

What are the challenges of the inernational business?

  • Language: The main language for business in the word is “English” so it’s the main challengue to do international business you must know english

  • Time zone: Maybe you live in venezuela but you are doing business in china it should be a challenge because you have several hours apart

  • Cultural differences: It should be a challenge to conect or understand some culturar differences because for example in latam we have some culture but im europe they have others cultures and traditions. Some cultures when they speak they share a lot information others just going to the point, hello, this is the context, goodbye… You must adapt in others cultures to conect more with your co-workers

  • Body language: It is very important because for example in LATAM you say hello with a kiss but for others cultures it could be disgustin or annoyed. You must use a formal body language to be empathic and understable with your co-wokers

  • Local market: It is very important because you need to pay attention to different currencies, like dollars, bolivares, yens, euros

"It is not the strongest or the smartest who will survive, but those who can best manage change"
That is really important because the world is constantly changing and we have to adapt, especially in business. Now there are two types of businesses. National business and international business.
What are the main challenges of international business
the language, time zone, cultural differences, body language, the local market, currency fluctuation, practicing the language, even if you’ve tried a bit to practice the local language to be able to talk to people.
Other cultures are going to need certain things. Perhaps punctuality is very important in one country, but it is not important in another country

I love this teacher.

I think you need to be flexible with domestic business too, in a diferent form but we should

Good recipes. I remember when i’m working in Chile, we found differences of meaning in some words in spanish like “cachay” that’s mean understand, “cuático” that’s mean fantastic. This experience was cool jeje 😅

I felt offended at the first time about de High Context Cultures and Low Context Cultures (Cultural differences) but the first rule in bussiness is don’t take it personal, so it’s OK, I accept that, in Latam we are so distrusful so we need a lot of information, many proofs to believe; all this study was from an American cultural anthropologist called Edward T. Hall.

be patient as a phrase says, a key to success!😊

Being puntual is part of the cultural aspect in every country. Latinos, in mayority doesn't pay too much attention to this, specially when we speak. we have expressions that only latin Americans understand. like: "ya llego", "en un segundo", "dame un minuto". we don't take it literally, but in other countries people don't understand it.

my last teamwork was made up of people from Colombia and Perú, and you may think that the cultures are very similar and is true, but sometimes we noticed some differences specially in the use of some words that produced misunderstandings. Be open minded to the deal with this small differences is so important in order to maintain the connection with the hole team

The ability to adapt to the environment can give you an advantage in business

For me a big challenge is to socialize, still is good to know what to do and what not, and it makes it easier.

Ok

In real life doing business in countries like: China or Rusia, it’s more difficult than we would think, to communicate in English turns impossible in most cases, semiotic and gestures turns basic 😃

everything it`s very clear!

great

International bussiness is when your export your products to others countries.

Changes are very important in our way to be achieve our goals. That’s what I think…

Is necessary to be carefully with opinions, respect others and have an open mind to adapt easily.

What are the challenges of international business?

I learned in a bad way about punctuality when I was about 20 years old, since then, I’ve never been late for anything.

I came here wanting to improve my english and I go out knowing how to do business internationally. Magic.

It is interesting the culture about emails. I found this article that talks about how to write effective emails https://guykawasaki.com/the_effective_e/). Guy advises us to write emails in 5 sentences and to write a meaningful subject line.

What are the challenges of international business?

  1. Language: the main language for business in the world is English.
  2. Time zone: you must be sure when you contact the client because of the different time zone.
  3. Cultural differences: we have to be aware of the differences in cultures, for that we must understand the high context culture and the low context culture.
  4. Body language: it’s extremely important because the contact might be an offense to the other people.
  5. Local market: you need to pay attention to different currencies, especially the fluctuation.

**6 tips for international business: **

• Practice the language

• Be flexible

Patience is the king of all when doing international business.
Why? Because when dealing with foreigners it almost encloses the 6 tips given by Jess Harris.
But being patient does not mean that you have to accept everything, remember that you are in the middle of a trade: you will give something waiting for something in return.

first of all we must believe in ourselves, it can be one of the 1st step

Be flexible, try to understand different contexts, and change the way you interact

The biggest barriers i have found doing international business are the language, time zone and the culture differences. One day we had a problem with the deployment of code with the company we work in India and we couldn’t solve that day because in there it was a hollyday and that was a big problem, after that we have to make a big effort to understand their way to speak english and their time zome, sometimes we have to be awake at 00 or 1 am 😂

Another important tip to international business is to never stop learning.

Jess is so funny when you told us about all the steps that you have to put in practice in Latin America jajajja this part was so jokey

I prefer low context cultures 😂

I needed a lot this class and is one of my favorites 😃

Why do we need much information? xD You can tell me what do I have to do and I’ll do it without more info xD
.
Anyhow, I think culture is important to keep in mind, and I didn’t know that the peace symbol is bad in England D:

Be open minded in all the aspects.

Useful expressions that he used in the same context;
Be aware - Estar al pendiente o ser consciente
In the right track - En el camino correcto
Main city - Ciudad dónde vives (principal)
to be able to - Para
Hight context cultures - Grandes diferencias de cultura
Low context cultures - Pequeñas diferencias de cultura
Handshake - apretón de manos
Taking into account - Tener en cuenta
Big challenge - Gran reto

at first, for the third tip “Respect customs and try new things”, and because we are talking business context, first thing came to my mind was: “sure we have to respect customs (aduanas), otherwise we are gonna face problems importing/exporting products”, so, for “customs” what would be your tip to get the right meaning between “costumbres” and “aduanas”? 😅
