Personal success is often harder to recognize than it seems, especially when we are taught to always strive for continuous improvement.
Why is it so hard to recognize our achievements?
We may have acquired beliefs that tell us we never do enough. A clear example is the case of a student who brings home a grade of 9 and, instead of celebrating, is told that he or she must get a 10 next time. This type of teaching tends to discourage celebration of current accomplishments and reinforces the idea that we must always do more.
How can we learn to Cope with Life's Challenges?
We can learn to manage both events that give us pleasure and those that cause us displeasure. An example of this is how we react when someone tells us that they no longer love us.
These unpleasant events provoke pain, cause anxious thoughts and require us to make complicated decisions. However, by practicing observation and acquiring a clear mindset, we can learn to handle these life challenges.
What is R.A.I.N. and how can it help us?
Finally, I encourage you to try R.A.I.N., a mindfulness practice that can help you handle these challenges with more grace. R.A.I.N is an easy and effective guide for navigating emotional storms and getting to a place of greater calm and clarity.
