To write a biography is necessary to use the verbs in the third person.

Be careful!
If you are writing about a person who has passed away, you must remember to use all verbs in the past. If you are writing about a person who is alive, use verbs in the past for finished actions and verbs in the present for current ones.

Here are some examples of things you can write about in the artist’s biography:

  • Occupation

  • Nationality

  • Birthday

  • Family

  • Specific information

  • Favorites

The activity for this class is to write a biography about an artist of your choice.
In the resources section, there is a worksheet to help you. Use the information you find online about the artist to complete it. That will help you to have a clear idea of what to talk about in each paragraph. There is also an example of how to complete the worksheet.

Also, here is the structure your review should have:

  • Paragraph 1: Include the name of your artist, his/her occupation, his/her nationality, the place, and the date he/she was born.

  • Paragraph 2: Write about your artist’s family and personal life. Tell some fun facts!

  • Paragraph 3: Discuss some aspects of your artist’s career and professional life. Do not forget to mention his/her achievements.

  • Paragraph 4: Mention his/her likes and dislikes. Also, talk about your favorites.

  • Paragraph 5: Finish saying the date and place of death or what your artist is doing at present.

He is a prominent mangaka, most recognized for his work called Saint Seiya.
Since he was little, Masami Kurumada have a passion for draw. In the school he participated in manga contests, at only 20 years old won the highest award in one of them by presenting his work entitled Otokoraku (1974), the story of a young adolescent, which consists of 3 volumes.
It was so that an editor hired him to work as his assistant, improving his style for the next three years of his life, Masami Kurumada trained in the “old school” of mangaka. At a time when Japan was in full economic renaissance, where the need to assert itself was present more than ever among its inhabitants. A period outstanding in mangas that courage, and perseverance. At the age of 21, he debuted on the pages of Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump magazine with Sukeban Arashi, immediately gaining great recognition.
His fame was increasing along with his repertoire of his works. However, his first great success did not come until 3 years later with Ring ni Kakero (drawn between 1977 and 1981), a series that takes place in the world of boxing which
It would mark some of the features of his later successes, this manga was published by Shonen Jump and consists of 26 volumes. His style is vigorous and his development particularly incisive, this is perceived above all in the action scenes. Later he will draw Fuuma no Kojiro (1982), which tells the odyssey of a character around a sacred sword, Otoko Zaka and Raimei no Zaji (both in 1988). These two series have been a notorious success in Japan.
In 1986, Kurumada achieved his greatest success with Saint Seiya (created between 1982 and 1984) known as Los Caballeros del Zodíaco in Latin America, a manga that integrated all the components of the epic recitation of antiquity, complicated with tragic elements, on a Mythological background, an extraordinary work from the narrative point of view, published in 1986 gathering 28 volumes and later adapted to Anime, achieving fame with 114 episodes and four films by Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno for Toei Animation.
His works were published exclusively by Shonen Jump magazine until 1994, the last to be published being Silent Knight Shô (1993), which due to its remarkable resemblance to Saint Seiya fails to be a success and is licensed. His career as of this fact seemed over, however, in 1996 he published Evil Crusher Maya in Enix’s Shonen Gangan, before leaving for Kadokawa Shoten, where he published his next success in the pages of Shonen Ace, B’t X, his first futuristic work. Kadowaka Shôten magazine published it in 16 volumes, it was marketed between 1994 and 2000, thus Kurumada returns to the path of success.
After finishing B’t X, Kurumada returned to Shueisha where he published the second part of Ring ni Kakero, simply titled Ring ni Kakero 2.
In 2004, Kurumada celebrated 30 years as a professional manga artist, and in the same year two of his best-known and classic works experienced a revival. Ring ni Kakero was adapted into an anime 27 years after its manga debut. The anime adaptation of Saint Seiya was resumed in 2003 and an attempt to start the Zeus chapter was made with the release of the Saint Seiya: Heaven Saga ~overture~ film in 2004, which was planned to continue the story with the subsequent release of the OVAs, but due to discrepancies between Kurumada and Toei Animation, the project fell through. however Kurumada still plans to publish the Zeus chapter in manga form in the near future.

Alan Touring biography
Alan Madison Touring was born in 1912 in Wilmslow and was a British mathematician. He lived his first thirteen years in India where his father worked in the colonial administration. Back in the UK, Alan studied at King’s College and, after graduation moved to the American Princeton university, he worked with the Logical Alan Chur.
In 1937 he published a famous article where he defined a calculating machine with an infinite capacity, known as Touring’s machine, that operated based on a series of basic instructions, thus laying the foundations of the modern concept of algorithms.
World War II presented an unsuspected framework for the practical application of his theories when the need arose to decipher the coded messages employed by german Marines to send instructions to submarines harassing material aid convoys sent from the United States. Touring led a British Intelligence division, and designed both processes and machines that, capable of performing combinatory calculations much faster than any human, were decisive in the final breaking of the code.
He further defined a theoretical method for deciding whether a machine was capable of thinking like a man (Touring test) and made contributions to other branches such as applied mathematics.
On a personal level, his sexual preference was the constant reason for strong social and family pressures, to the point of speculation whether his dead from poisoning was by an accident or a suicide attempt.

*Martin Luther (1483-1546)* was a German theologian and a central figure in the Protestant Reformation. In 1517, he famously posted his 95 Theses, challenging the Catholic Church's practice of selling indulgences. This act marked the beginning of the Reformation and his dissent against the Church's authority. Luther's translation of the Bible into German allowed ordinary people to access and understand the Scriptures, making the Bible more accessible and contributing significantly to the spread of Protestantism. At the Diet of Worms in 1521, Luther boldly refused to recant his beliefs, declaring, "Here I stand; I can do no other." This unyielding stance made him a symbol of religious resistance. Luther's marriage to Katharina von Bora, a former nun, challenged the Church's celibacy rules for clergy and set an example of a Protestant marriage. His hymn writing, including the famous "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," and his emphasis on the priesthood of all believers left a lasting legacy that shaped the modern Christian world and continues to influence millions of followers within the Lutheran tradition. Martin Luther aimed to make the Bible accessible to the common people by translating it into the vernacular language of the time, which was Early New High German. This translation was not "pure" in the sense of being completely devoid of regional or dialectical influences, but it was a major step toward standardizing and codifying the German language. Luther's translation had a profound impact on the development of the German language and contributed to the establishment of a common, literary form of the language. In this way, Martin Luther's translation of the Bible is considered a key factor in the development of the modern German language and played a pivotal role in making the Bible accessible to a wider audience, which was a significant aspect of the Protestant Reformation.
