Welcome to a new session on learning sign language! Learning this skill not only enriches our communication skills, but also opens us up to a diverse world of interaction. Today, we will focus on essential sign language questions and how to use them effectively in our everyday conversations.

What questions are essential in sign language?

Let's start with the most fundamental: questions. In any language, knowing how to ask questions is key to maintaining a fluid and effective conversation. Here are the basic questions you can ask in sign language:

  1. What?
    • Example: What is that in your hand?
  2. How?
    • Example: How do you feel?
  3. When are you feeling?
    • Example: When do we have the appointment?
  4. Which one?
    • Applications:
      • Choice of objects: Which flower: the red one or the blue one?
      • Choice of persons: Which of these two people told you that? the man or the woman?
  5. Where did it happen?
    • Example: Where did it happen? In the center?
  6. Why did it happen?
    • Example: Why are you angry?
  7. Why are you angry?
    • Example: Why are you giving me that email?
  8. Who?
    • Example: Who is that person? Your dad? Your mom? Your aunt?
  9. What happened?
    • Example: What happened to the problem? Tell!

These questions are the cornerstone of effective communication and allow you to interact in a closer and more meaningful way.

How to apply the questions in real situations?

The best way to learn is through practice, and using these questions in everyday contexts will help you internalize them. Here are some practice suggestions:

  • Choice challenges: try asking about preferences, as in "Which one?" examples to encourage practice with both objects and people.
  • Everyday situations: Ask someone you've just met "How do you feel today?" when starting a conversation and watch it unfold.
  • Problems that require a solution: Use "Why?" in situations where something goes wrong to better understand the context.

How can you practice on your own?

Constant practice is essential in learning any language, and sign language is no different. Here are a few steps to strengthen your questioning skills:

  1. Select two or three questions: Choose the ones you are most interested in or use the most, and focus on them during your week of practice.

  2. Videotape yourself: Practice asking these questions in front of the camera and watch your expression.

  3. Participate in forums: After recording your video, share it in forums or sign language practice groups to receive feedback and improve.

How important is feedback in learning?

Receiving feedback from those who are also learning or experienced is an invaluable tool. By interacting in forums and groups, you not only improve your skills, but also enrich your experience by learning from different styles and techniques of other practitioners.

So, dear trainee, I encourage you to continue this meaningful journey with enthusiasm. Every gesture, every signal and every practice brings you closer to becoming a more effective and empathetic communicator, so keep learning!

¡Wow! En serio que es maravilloso. He aprendido tanto tanto, amé este curso.
