In this article we will share the answers given by students in an interview about their Portuguese language learning at Platzi.
Motivation is an important tool for moving forward with learning a new language, so the students were asked what motivated them to study Portuguese.
The main motivation to start learning Portuguese was a trip they had to Brazil to study a master's degree there.
The political, social and economic situation in Venezuela was one of the main triggers for migration to another country and Brazil was an attractive destination.
Each person has a different learning process, but knowing them can help us to build our own. The students were asked what their learning process was like.
When she started studying for her trip to Brazil, she was already a student at Platzi. So, she followed the courses offered on the platform to learn Portuguese.
He learned Portuguese in Bogota, taking an intensive course four times a week, two hours a day, for a year. At the same time, he watched videos online and practiced conversation with classmates in Brazil.
When she found out she was going to Brazil, she took the Portuguese course at Platzi with Professor João and practiced a lot with Duolingo, Falou and Youtube to improve.
The challenges for each learning process are also different. The interviewees were asked what was the biggest challenge, what was the most difficult and how they overcame it.
The biggest challenge was separating the Portuguese accent from the Spanish accent. The way I overcame it was by watching a lot of videos with subtitles to know how the words are spelled and to make a differentiation.
Speaking in a formal way clashed with the informal way normally used in Brazil. The way to solve it was to unlearn some things previously learned.
The biggest challenge was speaking with the natives in Brazil. The way she solved it was by practicing at her first job, interacting with natives, and watching movies with subtitles.
The feeling of progress, like motivation, helps to keep us moving forward in our learning. Students were asked how they learned that they had improved their level.
She realized her progress when she understood her classes more and communicated fluently with her classmates.
His progress became noticeable when he wrote and defended his project in Portuguese for his master's degree.
She noticed her progress when she felt that she understood the native speakers much better and also through the feedback she received about her improvement in the language.
A language is never finished, so there is always something new to learn.
Try to consume some multimedia content in Portuguese every day.
Keep practicing conversation with speakers
Comment which recommendation you liked the most from the interview.
All in all, we can say that the motivation and the way we follow our learning process will inspire us to go ahead with the acquisition of the new language.
