Bases de datos

Why are databases important?

Databases play a fundamental role in the management and analysis of information that, in turn, drives marketing, sales and customer service strategies, among other areas. From the moment a user visits your website, a wealth of data begins to be generated: session time, number of visits, registrations, names, among others. This data is segmented to create effective strategies by directing messages through various channels such as email, SMS or notifications.

How do they add value to different areas of the company?

  • Sales: The data helps to create more effective and targeted presentations to the specific customer profile.
  • Human Resources: Optimizes personnel management by storing information such as address, salary, and benefits, improving strategy and organizational culture.
  • Customer Service: Know the user by name, mail, and needs, improving their experience and retention.
  • Product and customer service: 360° strategies that span from marketing to product development.

What pillars should be considered when working with databases?

Databases must be structured in an efficient way to facilitate their management and analysis. Some fundamental pillars include:

1. Customers

  • Unique ID: As the basis for data segmentation. This ID is crucial and, when creating it, make sure it is not repeated to avoid confusion.
  • Contact data: First name, last name, phone, email, and, when applicable, address.
  • Secure storage: Initially, Excel used to be recommended, but it is preferable to migrate early to specialized databases such as MySQL to avoid data loss.

2. Orders and eCommerce

  • Order records: Include unique ID of each order, status (pending, delivered), date of order and other specific requirements.
  • Integration with other platforms: Employ tools that connect with your platform for agile and secure management of order information.

3. Staff

  • Internal control: Human resources can handle data in Excel, although it is recommended to have more robust database systems to secure information.
  • Asset tracking: Manage IDs to assign and control assets such as computers and cell phones to employees.

What are the best practices for collecting data?

Initial capture

Start gently with simple forms, such as newsletter subscriptions to obtain emails and eventually request more information segmented according to the needs of your strategy.

Registration form

On advanced registration sites, ask for incremental data: first name, last name, email, phone numbers, and interests. It is important to guide the user in a natural flow that does not feel invasive.

eCommerce

Companies like Amazon allow you to browse the catalog before requesting data, which builds trust. They use intelligent strategies to obtain information just when the user is ready to buy, increasing the conversion rate.

How to implement forms efficiently?

Mailchimp is an excellent tool for getting into data collection and integrating it properly into your platforms.

Integrations

Mailchimp offers integrations with various content management and eCommerce platforms such as WordPress, WooCommerce, and Squarespace. You can also add connectors via Zapier to increase functionality.

Embedded form

It is possible to customize HTML forms on platforms like Instapage. You can change fields for specific business needs, ensuring that the form reflects the information requirements without complicating the user.

Security and testing

Before publishing a form, it is critical to test to ensure that data is collected properly and data security best practices are followed.

We invite you to continue exploring the dynamic world of databases and data collection, skills that will open multiple doors in the digital realm. Remember: whenever you structure a database, always think about its practical application and strategic benefits.
