If you don't know your English level yet, go to our Platzi English Test and find out in minutes. 🚀

We suggest you read this dialogue to practice the use and differentiation of adjectives and adverbs. Pay close attention to what Cesar and his guest say so that you can do the exercise at the end of this class.

As you read, try to recognize as many adjectives and adverbs as you can.

Dialogue using adjectives and adverbs

Cesar: What's up?

Guest: Great, and you?

Cesar: I'm doing fine. Work's been tough, but ok. Hey, it's always great to have you guys here.

Guest: I can see that. Your eyes look tired.

Cesar: Oh, that. No, I think I have an allergy or something.

Guest: Anyway, I'm glad you guys are back. Last weekend there was this party, and I had no one to go with. But it was nicer than the ones we used to go to when we were teenagers. You missed it.

Cesar: I'm glad to be back, too. So tell me, how's school going?

Guest: Not so well. I need to get good grades for my next exams, so I don't fail this semester.

Cesar: Again? I thought you were doing better this semester than the previous one.

Guest: Well, you know me, right? I never study, but this time I tried a little harder, but still...

Cesar: I get it. College is not like high school. Do you remember our senior year? I used to feel more intelligent back then.

Guest: Tell me about it. I thought the subjects would be more interesting at college, but I really don't like them. And sometimes, I feel that the professors are not in love with me being in their class either. At school, the teachers used to be friendly, but now it's different.

Cesar: Well, it's more difficult to be a flatterer, you mean. Hahaha.

Guest: It's not that! It's just harder to make them fall for me. Hahaha.

Cesar: No worries. It's more complicated in the beginning than later. Believe me. I've been there.

Guest: I know. But my mom is not happy. My university is more expensive than others, and she said this is my last chance. If I do as horribly as I did last semester, I'll have to change schools.

Cesar: I can talk to aunt Josy if you want. I can easily convince her to give you one more chance.

Guest: I doubt it. But you should try. And if you magically convince my mom about that, I can think about inviting you to the next party.

Cesar: Deal!

Exercise on Adjectives and Adverbs

Very good! I'm sure you noticed that some words were highlighted and in italics.

Now record yourself pronouncing each of them and listen to them so you can give yourself feedback. Don't forget that you can use Vocaroo, a tool recommended in the Strategies for Learning English course.
