En espacios comunes como un hotel o un parque, existen reglas o instrucciones que se deben respetar sin importar quién realice las acciones.
Expresar una regla o instrucción sin importar quién reciba la orden se realiza de forma pasiva y se conoce como "passive infinitive”. La misma emplea voz pasiva para hacer foco en el objeto y no en el sujeto.
Forma activa | Forma pasiva |
---|---|
Josh needs to teach a class online. | A class needs to be taught online. |
Laura needs to send the email by 3 o’clock. | The email needs to be sent by 3 o’clock. |
Las oraciones se construyen con la estructura to be + past participle.
En los ejemplos anteriores, la forma activa hace foco en las acciones de Josh y Laura. La forma pasiva no nos importa quién realiza la acción, nos interesa qué sucede con la clase o el email.
Veamos algunos ejemplos más:
De esta manera, puedes estructurar oraciones para dar instrucciones en lugares públicos, equipos de trabajo o entornos donde deban respetarse ciertas reglas. No nos importa el sujeto, se hace foco en el objeto o la acción.

At work, everyone needs to be at the office before 9 AM.
In school, all blackboards needs to be erased at the end of the day.
At home, all shoes must be left outside.
My PC need to be formatted each semester
The table where you cook needs to be clean before we start cook
my bedroom needs to be clean before i go to sleep
In my house, toys need to be organized all the time.
Utensils need to be washed everyday.
The pots must be washed.
Classrooms must be cleaned.
Collections need to be updated everyday
The presentation needs to be prepared before finishing the month
Pots need to be washed before cooking the food
Files need to be named with full name and subject before sending them
In the kitchen:
A mask needs to be worn by every member of the staff at all times.
At work:
The time of arrival needs to be met by every employee.
Knifes need to be kept in a safe place
The chef needs to be helped by the staff
In a hotel, the breakfast needs to be made by 8 o’clock, also employees need to clean the swimming pool at midnight in order to be clean for the next morning.
