Diferencia entre énfasis y resumen al retransmitir mensajes en inglés

Para poder expresar énfasis en la persona cuando retransmitimos un mensaje o hacer un resumen de este, comencemos estudiando la diferencia entre las siguientes oraciones:

  • Alexander Bell invented the telephone.
  • It was Alexander Bell who invented the telephone.

Podemos encontrar aquí algunas diferencias, la primera está dada en el énfasis en la persona al decir “It was Alexander Bell” en lugar de solo mencionar su nombre. La utilización de palabras para hacer preguntas como “who” y el orden de las palabras es lo que convierte a la segunda oración en más enfática, retransmitiendo quién es Alexander Bell y qué hizo.

Otra forma de retransmitir mensajes con énfasis es a través de la estructura “what + to be”. Una vez más, estamos utilizando palabras para hacer preguntas para destacar a la persona.

What Matt Cutts recomends the audience is to change their habits with a 30- day program. He said to achieve extraordinary goals they have to set little daily tasks, for example going to work by bike everyday. Besides riding for work, what he did for a month was to write a book and avoid sugar. He said that altough he acomplished his objective, what he wrote wasn’t going to be a bestseller. But on the other side, what he found like a great accomplishment was to give up on candies.

Hi, I’m not very sure if " was to give up on candies" is correct. Should I say “was giving up on candies” ?
