Engaging in the design of a gamified strategy requires understanding the essential characteristics of games. These characteristics, although not all of them are mandatory in every strategy, are key to align our actions to the objective we want to achieve. Let's explore them in detail.
An essential aspect of play is its free nature. People choose to engage in play for pleasure, whether for fun or relaxation. This freedom is essential for the gaming experience to be authentic and enjoyable. In gamification, it is vital to offer that sense of choice and voluntariness to ensure engagement.
Games develop within their own time and space boundaries. This means that they create a specific environment conducive to playful activity. Providing a clear and delimited context helps participants to concentrate and fully enjoy the experience.
Although games can be seen as messy, they have fixed rules that give them structure and meaning. This framework of rules allows players to understand how they are expected to interact and perform within the game. The existing order is crucial to maintaining interest and continued participation.
The game's ability to immerse players intensely is critical. Think about it: a child at play is completely absorbed in their activity. This immersion allows players to disconnect from reality and focus on their gaming experience, something that should also be achieved in effective gamified strategies.
Gamification encourages active participation, both from those involved and observers. If you see someone playing, you probably feel the impulse to join in, and it is this impulse that makes gamification a powerful tool to foster interactivity and active engagement.
An interesting feature of gaming is its ability to take players away from everyday life. By participating in a game, people enter a different world not directly related to their daily tasks, providing them with a creative outlet necessary for personal well-being.
Games generate a dose of tension and uncertainty, especially if they are agonal in nature, where two teams or individuals compete. This tension is the driving force that keeps players and spectators on the edge of their seats, waiting for what will happen in the end. Case in point: the palpable excitement during a soccer match.
Games that incorporate competition tend to capture the audience's attention more. The antithetical and competitive nature of certain games raises the level of engagement, benefiting from the curious nature of observers who want to know the outcome of such confrontations.
Not all game features are essential for every gamified strategy, but it is recommended to include those directly connected to the objectives of your project. Evaluating each feature and its relevance to your goal is crucial to employ them effectively.
Moreover, gamification is not only training and entertainment; it is a powerful didactic tool that teaches rules, fosters respect, supports creative thinking and stimulates problem solving. By remembering how play has benefited us, we can leverage these lessons when designing gamified experiences that benefit both the player and their personal skills.

no es necesario que nuestra estrategia tenga todas estas características, pero debes atender a las mas posibles que cumplan con tu objetivo

Después de enseñar matemática y áreas científicas por mas de 20 años, me invitaron a enseñar IDIOMAS MAYAS!!!
Ya que yo era la única persona que había ido a Sud América a estudiar quechua y había estudiado algun IDIOMA MAYA en Guatemala. Me he graduado de mi primer idioma maya.
Curiosamente, mis estudiantes son en su mayoría de origen maya, pero que han suspendido el uso de sus idiomas ya en segunda o tercera generación.
Me tiré al agua, y utilicé modelos de construcción lúdica para invitarlos a usar los idiomas mayas, entonces a distancia, debido a la pandemia.
En 2023, será mi primer año en lo presencial.
Este curso es ideal para mi, vengo del curso de Desarrollo de Creatividad y otros cursos interesantísimos.
Los niños y a veces también nosotros podemos a llegarnos a tomar un juego tan seriamente como si fuera el trabajo 🤪
