March 8, 1857 is a significant date in the struggle for women's rights, because it is the first women's strike that took place in New York demanding their labor rights.
It commemorates the women workers who lost their lives (more than 120 women) working in the textile industry and is considered a political day and to receive congratulations is to realize that the movement is still not understood.

The women demanded fair wages, higher pay, shorter working hours, the right to vote and a ban on child labor. The slogan they used was "Bread and Roses" (Women's protest in Russia). For, bread represented economic security, and roses, a better quality of life.
It is not a day to congratulate
8M is a day to make the movement visible through the media or people. It is not a day to congratulate because it is a date of vindication and tribute. That tragic event sparked the flame of the search for social justice for women and men. In 1975, the United Nations celebrated International Women's Day for the first time on March 8.
Why are marches frowned upon?
In gender stereotypes, women are seen as pure, tender and pretty. However, when a woman challenges these stereotypes at marches, it generates controversy because of the imposition of those stereotypes. Talking about "proper forms" or denying their existence obscures the real debate about feminism and social justice. Glass can be repaired, but life cannot be returned.
It is important to understand that rights are still missing, that's why we march on 8M. If you are a man, you can also participate by spreading the word in your networks. If you attend the march, avoid assuming leadership roles. If you are a father, take care of your children. If you are a co-worker, cover the shift. If you are a boss, give the day off. If you work in the media, encourage a woman to cover the march. Inform and provide support.

What good is the Angel of Independence if the reality is that women cannot be free to go out on the streets without fear?
