BASIC ASPECT OF WRITING:

  1. CAPITALIZATION is when we write the first letter of a word, sentence or paragraph with an uppercase letter.
  2. ABBREVIATION is basically making a long phrase or a long word, very small. For instance: Mr. (mister).
    3)I NDENTATION is that space you leave when starting a paragraph (It鈥檚 mostly used in academic writing).
  3. PUNCTUATION is what helps you to make your reader understand your idea (colons, semicolons, commas, slashes, ellipsis).
  4. GRAMMAR are rules for writing sentences in the past for example.
  5. VOCABULARY: is that word or phrase that you鈥檙e using appropriate for your readers?

There are successive STAGES when we are WRITING:

  1. PREWRITING: it鈥檚 when we brainstorm our ideas (education? politics?).
  2. DRAFTING: It鈥檚 when we start writing down, putting down our ideas on paper.
  3. REVISING: It鈥檚 when we start reading and analyzing if the sentences we wrote before are correct, and if they sense our idea.
  4. EDITING: it鈥檚 when we start improving our sentences, changing some things if necessary.
  5. PUBLISHING: it鈥檚 when we publish what we have written.

Class Notes:

  • Capitalization is when we write the first letter of a word, sentence, or paragraph in uppercase. Every time we start to write a new sentence, after a period, we need to start with a capital letter. Example: Bogota.
  • Abbreviation makes a long phrase or a long word minimal. Example: Mr. = Mister.
  • Indentation is the space we leave when starting a new paragraph and is mainly used in academic writing.
  • Punctuation Include colons, semicolons, commas, slashes, and ellipses, and they help your reader understand your idea.
  • Grammar Parts of speech and appropriate lexicon. Let麓s imagine you are writing a paragraph about an anecdote. Anecdotes are in the past, which means most of your sentences must have been written in the past, and you must be aware of that.
  • Vocabulary refers to using appropriate words or phrases for the readers.

Stages of Writing
Prewriting: We brainstorm our ideas. Am I going to write about education? Politics?
Drafting: We start writing down our ideas, putting down our ideas on paper.
Revising: We read and analyze the sentences we wrote before to check if they are correct and make sense of the main idea.
Editing: In this phase, the idea is to improve the sentences or change some things if necessary.
Publishing: It consists in posting your report.

Some basics about writing.
