Roleplay I - Trouble at the airport

Recursos

Por ejemplo, frases como "would you be so kind as to..."

Why no one seem to identify with poor Mike? He seems like he"s under a lot of stress haha.
The polite phrases I could catch were:
Sorry for interrupting…

Sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt, but …
Would you mind if I jump in here, Mike?
Excuse me for being so rude, but if you’d be so kind as to…
Let me add something here…
Would you both be so very kind as to…
Pardon me, sir, but I wonder if you’ll be kind enough to help me out.

I think Charles is a diplomatic guy. So, I feel more related with him. Then I would start off reading a book like Bob did, meanwhile I wait for my plane’s arrival.

Vocabulary:
-get comfortable: ponte cómodo
-get out: salir
-makes you pretty mad, doesn´t it: te pone bastante enojado, ¿no es así?
-I am in no rush: no tengo prisa
-I am just fed up with: estoy enojado con
-complain: queja
-I do not mean to interrupt: no pretendo interrumpir
-drizzle: llovizna
-fine folks like yourself: buena gente como tú
-messed up: hacer un desastre

-Pardon me, sir, but I wonder if you would be kind enough to help me out

It seems Bob´s attitude relates more with my personality and likes because he wasn´t mad and he tried to pass time reading a book.

· Charles: Sorry for interrupting · Sorry, I don´t mean to interrupt, but · Would you mind If I jumped in here Mike? · Excuse me for being so rude but If you´d be so kind as to let me read one of your books while we wait, I appreciate it greatly. · Let me add something here · Sorry, I meant, did you try to talking to them calmly and politely? · Would you both be so very kind as to keep your voices down a little? · Would you be so kind as to help me with this? · Excuse me for a moment · I wonder if you would be kind enough to help me out

The story is about 3 travelers: Mike, Bob, and Charles. Mike (A hurried scientist) knows the flight might take up to five hours. He is very mad about the airline. He thinks they always change schedules like if the people wouldn’t have any big deal. Charles didn’t know, but he isn’t in a rush, so it doesn’t really matter too much. He politely says **“-sorry for interrupting, but did I hear you correctly?”** Bob is calm and gentle towards Mike; he sounds very sure they’ll arrive just in time because they’ve anticipated to a delay in the airport. Charles doesn’t see how this is the airline’s fault, because there’s a big storm coming. **He excuses herself for interrupting**. **Bob kindly asks for jumping in the conversation**. Even though Mike considers the storm a drizzle, both Charles and Bob coincide in that it isn’t a drizzle but a tropical storm. They convince Mike. Charles came prepared with books and a good attitude. **Bob asked kindly for a book**: “excuse me for being so rude, but you'd be so kind as to let me read one of your books while we wait” Mike keeps complaining on the airline because they didn’t apologize nor offered vouchers for meals. Then, **Bob insists (again in a polite way “sorry I meant…”)** to Mike that he should try talking to them about what’s going on. Bob uses the known phrase “you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” in a persuasive manner. But Mike tells him he already complained with them. Mike remembers his mother always said that to him when he was a kid; but it’s been a long time since he has heard someone else say it. Meanwhile Bob was trying to read but gets interrupted with the level of the voice of Mike and Charles. He politely asks to keep their voices down a little. Bob\*\*: Will you both be so very kind as to keep your voices down a little\*\* So, Charles decides to go to measure his carry-on at the counter. He asks Mike about helping him. Mike accepts, and he wants to try again with the people at the counter, this time explaining politely his issue. Mike **excuses** for a moment: -Pardon me, sir, but I wonder if you’ll be kind enough to help me out. You see, the thing is…

My activity: The attitude of the passengers: * Mike was rude to talk, not really polite most of the time. He completely disagrees with airlines changing schedules and the fact that they do nothing for customers, he believes that airlines don’t care about the customers’ time. He is in a hurry because he has specimens to take to the laboratory as fast as possible and the five-hour wait worries him. * Bob was relaxed. He didn’t care about time, he says that the specimens will be fine and they just have to wait. He even begins to read while they were talking after hearing that Charles had books on his baggage. * Charles is very polite, he thinks that the delay is not the airline’s fault, it’s because of the weather, and he is not worried about waiting because he has many books and loves to read. Which of the passengers am I most similar to in a similar situation? At the beginning I was like Mike, but then I understood that a delay is unpredictable just like the weather, and that I should prepare for a long wait. Since then, I always carry books, movies, series and video games in my hand luggage in case there are any delay, so I don’t worry about waiting. Write the polite phrases that you heard in the role play 1. **Sorry for interrupting, but** did I hear you correctly? 2. **Sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt, but** I hardest see how this is the airline’s fault. 3. **Would you mind if I jumped in here**, Miky? 4. **Excuse me for being so rude, but if you’d be so kind** **as to** let me read one of your books while we wait **I’ll appreciate it greatly** 5. **Let me add something here**, maybe you should tried talking to them about what’s going on? 6. **Would you both be so very kind as to** keep your voices down a little, I’m trying to read here. 7. **Would you be so kind as to** help me with this. 8. Bother me sir, but I wonder if you be kind enough to help me out.
