Delmonting:

When a programmer deploys a piece of code on a Friday afternoon and leaves for the weekend, completely unaware that their piece of code just took down the entire product and no one else knows how to fix the problem because the code is either way too complex or just completely incoherent.

Example:

  • This company has not tolerance delmonting.

More English courses should have this production, incluiding the funny comments.

### **Technical words used in the conversation and their definitions:** 1. **Onboarding**: * **Definition**: The process of integrating a new employee into the company by helping them understand systems, tools, and workflows. * **Context**: Sebastian had trouble setting up his workstation during onboarding. 2. **Z shell (Zsh)**: * **Definition**: A Unix shell that can be used as an interactive login shell and as a command interpreter for scripts. * **Context**: Sebastian mistakenly installed the C shell instead of Z shell during onboarding. 3. **C shell (Csh)**: * **Definition**: Another Unix shell, with a syntax based on the C programming language, used for scripting and interactive use. * **Context**: Sebastian installed the wrong shell (C shell) instead of the intended Z shell. 4. **Deploy to production**: * **Definition**: The process of releasing or making new code live on the production environment where users can interact with it. * **Context**: A previous deployment caused issues on a Friday, which led to platform downtime. 5. **Stand-up meeting**: * **Definition**: A daily meeting, often part of agile methodologies, where team members discuss progress, blockers, and next tasks. Usually kept short and to the point. * **Context**: Jess suggests they have their stand-up meeting since everyone else is on vacation. 6. **MySQL backend**: * **Definition**: MySQL is an open-source relational database management system, and the backend refers to the part of the system that interacts with databases and server-side logic. * **Context**: Sebastian is connecting the new login page to the MySQL backend. 7. **Ticket**: * **Definition**: A task or work item in a project management system, used to track work progress. * **Context**: Sebastian mentions that his current task was marked as a two-pointer ticket. 8. **Two-pointer / Five-pointer**: * **Definition**: Points refer to a method of estimating the complexity of a task, often used in agile development. A two-pointer is a task estimated to take less time or effort, while a five-pointer is more complex. * **Context**: Sebastian believes his task was underestimated and should be upgraded to a five-pointer. 9. **Styling components**: * **Definition**: Refers to the process of designing or formatting elements on a webpage, often using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) or other front-end design frameworks. * **Context**: Sebastian is waiting for Samantha to finish styling the components for the project. 10. **Merge**: * **Definition**: The process of combining code changes from different branches of a repository into a single branch, usually in version control systems like Git. * **Context**: Samantha’s work on the components is ready to be merged after code reviews. 11. **Branch**: * **Definition**: A separate line of development in version control systems, where changes can be made without affecting the main codebase. * **Context**: Samantha’s branch is ready for deployment after code reviews.
