Consonant Clusters

  • Sonido /s/: similar a "skate" (patinar), "snack" (merienda) y "strong" (fuerte).

  • Tres sonidos consonantes: "next" (siguiente).

¡Sigue practicando y compartiendo tus avances!

A cluster is a sequence, within the same syllable of a number of consonants: `e.g. scream -> /skriːm/` # **At the beginning of words** ![](https://static.platzi.com/media/user_upload/image-67cb3633-980e-4f10-b5d1-9bba22af5b32.jpg) # **Letters** Sometimes these combonations of sounds are visible in spelling: ```js train -> /treɪn/ smile -> /smaɪl/ ``` # **Sounds** But sometimes we cannot tell by the spelling but by learning the correct pronunciation of the word: ```js queen -> /kwiːn/ music -> /ˈmjuː.zɪk/ ``` # **At the end of words** There are more combinations of consoant sounds at the end of English words: ```js 2 -> wind /wɪnd/ 3 -> next /nekst/ 4 -> texts /teksts/ ``` # **Quick note!** Consonant groups at the end of words are very important in terms of grammar: * -s endings → He walks his dogs. * -ed endings → My address changed. * /nt/ endings → I didn’t do it! * /st/ endings → She is teh coolest artist. * /θ/ endings → We always rank fourth place. Not pronouncing final consonants may change the menaing of a word. # **Exercise** 1. If your tooth rakes, you will be in a lot of plain. breaks / pain 2.
