Btw, I loved that poem characterization! it was amazing!

• Do not stand at my grave and weep. • I am not there. I do not sleep. • I am a thousand winds that blow. • I am the diamond glints on snow. • I am the sunlight on ripened grain. • I am the gentle autumn rain. • When you awaken in the morning's hush. • I am the swift uplifting rush. • Of quiet birds in circled flight. • I am the soft starts that shine at night. • Do not stand at my grave 🪦 and cry😢. • I am not there. I did not die.

Here’s my recording (I love Mariana’s interpretation)

## **Stress pattern: ⚪.⚪** * `yes`, i `do` * `thanks` to `you` * `call` me `soon` * `tea` for `two` Stressed syllables tend to occur at roughly equal intervals of time. ## **Content words** are stressed * Nouns * Main verbs * Adjectives * Adverbs * Negative Auxiliaries * Wh-words ![](https://static.platzi.com/media/user_upload/image-24096fb9-5517-43eb-b0cd-18d072d6748c.jpg) ## **Function words** are unstressed * Articles * Personal pronouns * Prepositions * Conjunctions * Auxiliary verbs * Verb to be ## **Breaking the rules!** The speaker may choose to stress function words to create a special meaning or draw attention to an idea. ![](https://static.platzi.com/media/user_upload/image-48097d58-485e-457a-80f6-b14476578e77.jpg)
* Words are divided in `syllables`. * `Stress` is the `emphasis` we give to a syllable, therefore syllables within a word can be `stressed` or `unstressed`. * We can differentiate between certain `verbs` and `nouns` that are homographs by looking at where stress is located. * Stress can shift or move if we add a `prefix` or a `suffix` to make a longer word. This also happens when we join two words together to create a `compound word`. So `stress` can do a lot. But the most important and somewhat dangerous thing we can do with stress in English is: `CHANGE MEANING`. for example: ```js I'm NOT SPEAKING to you I'M not speaking TO YOU ``` The first one indicates that the emphasis is in the action of `NOT SPEAKING` to you. The second one puts the emphasis in who is making the action and whom the action is directed, in this case `I'M` not speaking `TO YOU`. ## **Sentence stress** English is a stress-timed language where important words within a sentence are emphasized or stressed and unstressed syllables fit in around them. Like highlighting words with your voice! ## **Rhythm** The stress we put in certain words within a sentences is what gives English its particular rhythm. Rhythm is the pattern of stresses within a line of text.

Thank you

Hello Mariana, if you´d be so kind as to, I have a doubt I´d like to clarify. In the minute 1:14 you said “I will not speak to you” and I thought we cannot say “will not” and that we must use “won´t” instead. Am I wrong or there are exceptions to that rule? I´ll appreciate your feedback! I´m learning a lot.
