My birthday is tomorrow, not today."

  • "Pancakes are so much better than waffles."
  • "I've either left my phone at the office or I've lost it." El contraste se centra en "at the office" y "lost it".
  • "I'm not really angry at her. Just disappointed."

Honestly, it’s hard to know if I can’t hear it.

Comparisions and Contrast

When we are contrasting two words or phrases, we emphasize or stress the parts we want to contrast. For the new information that the other speaker wasn’t expecting, I use a fall. For the second part, which has the information that the other speaker just shared, I use a rise or a fall rise. ![](https://static.platzi.com/media/user_upload/image-900ae75d-9464-4e00-bf99-0c7a658b213f.jpg) ![](https://static.platzi.com/media/user_upload/image-8c7cbb48-3ed3-4d5b-b14a-071ea2c1c05c.jpg) ## **Exercise** **A:** I bet they are having a wonderful time in Scotland. **B:** They went to Glasgow in Montana, `↑` not Glasgow in Scotland. `↓` **A:** Oh, I see.
