Writing an effective email

7/16
Recursos

  • Providing information
  • Asking for something

  • Subject line: the title should be clear about the subject of the email content (Ex: Updated report: august marketing campaign week 3).
  • Salutation: you have to start a new email with a "Good morning", "Hello, Michelle", "Greetings", it is important to consider the cultural angle of the person. In some cultures, it is correct to say "Hey!" or "Hi!", in others can be very informal.
  • Main body: the most important part of the email. Follow these tips: get directly to the point, what action do you want the person to take? (be clear). Two paragraphs max and two or three sentences per paragraph.
  • Closing: to finish an email, you can use a simple "Goodbye" or "Thank you for your help/time" when no reply necessary. "I look forward to hearing from you" when you wait for an answer. "Best regards, (name)" is a formal way to finish it.

  • Always proofread**
  • Check your tone**
  • Use simple languages**
  • Use short sentences**
  • Highlight key details**
  • Keep the cultural angle in mind

Best regards, Ivan.

Good afternoon, teacher Ravee,

I’ve been studying English for over a year, and I want to start applying my knowledge and see how much I have improved.

The thing is… I don’t know how to get in touch with native speakers to have a conversation without leaving my country, I tried a website in which many people who are learning other languages can talk to you in order to receive feedback, but I haven’t been able to talk to almost anyone, I try sending a message, but they don’t reply, or we usually have like a conversation for 2 minutes and I don’t get the chance to actually have a productive conversation, one in which I can improve and assess my language.

So, I would like to ask you if you know some effective way that could allow me to talk to native speakers and finally apply my knowledge. Thank you so much for your time, and I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Best regards, Julian
