Entender la diferencia entre "¿Cuánto?" y "¿Cuántos?" es fundamental tanto en el ámbito del aprendizaje del idioma como en situaciones cotidianas de comunicación. Esta distinción nos ayuda a referirnos de manera correcta a la cantidad de objetos contables e incontables, así como a preguntar por precios. A continuación, exploraremos cómo y cuándo emplear estas dos formas de preguntar sobre cantidades, utilizando ejemplos prácticos y situaciones del día a día.
¿Cuándo se utiliza "¿Cuánto?"
"¿Cuánto?" se usa cuando nos referimos a cosas incontables. En lecciones anteriores aprendimos que el pan, por ser un sustantivo incontable, se acompaña de "cuánto" al realizar preguntas sobre su cantidad. Por ejemplo:
- ¿Cuánto pan deseas comprar?
- Respuesta posible: Una barra.
Además, "¿cuánto?" se emplea para preguntar por el precio de algo. Si seguimos con el ejemplo del pan, la pregunta sería:
- ¿Cuánto cuesta el pan?
- Y la respuesta se refiere al precio, por ejemplo: USD 2,00.
¿Y "¿Cuántos?"?
Por otro lado, "¿Cuántos?" se utiliza para referirnos a cosas contables. Pensemos en las galletas. Si queremos saber la cantidad, preguntaríamos:
- ¿Cuántas galletas quisieras?
- Y la respuesta indica una cantidad exacta, dado que las galletas se pueden contar, por ejemplo: Nueve galletas.
En un rol de juego de ejemplo:
- Pastelería Palacio. Habla Julián. ¿En qué puedo ayudarte?
- Hola Julián, estoy organizando un brunch y me gustaría pedir algunos de tus cupcakes.
Durante la conversación, se usan ambas preguntas:
- ¿Cuántos te gustaría pedir?
- Depende del precio, ¿cuánto cuestan?
Ahí se ofrecen diferentes opciones con su respectivo precio, y se clarifica la cantidad exacta que representa "tres docenas" o "dos docenas."
¿Cómo identificar sustantivos contables e incontables?
Para identificar correctamente si un sustantivo es contable o incontable, hay que considerar si el objeto puede ser contado de manera individual. Vamos a ver algunos ejemplos:
- Sustantivos incontables: pan, azúcar, leche.
- Sustantivos contables: cupcakes, galletas, cafés.
Ejemplos de preguntas prácticas en un escenario de brunch
Aquí algunos ejemplos de las preguntas que podrías hacer para organizar un brunch:
- ¿Cuánto pan debería comprar para 10 personas?
- ¿Cuántas tazas de café necesitaré si espero 5 invitados?
- ¿Cuánto cuesta la entrega a domicilio?
