Medical Phrasal Verbs


  • Carry out: Realizar (un procedimiento, prueba o tratamiento).
    Example: The doctor will carry out a thorough examination to determine the cause of the symptoms.
  • Bring on: Provocar, desencadenar (síntomas o un ataque).
    Example: Eating certain foods can bring on an allergic reaction in some people.
  • Put off: Posponer (una cita médica o procedimiento).
    Example: Due to unforeseen circumstances, we need to put off your surgery until next week.
  • Cut out: Dejar de hacer (algo dañino o perjudicial para la salud).
    Example: The doctor advised him to cut out smoking and reduce his alcohol consumption.

  • Throw up: To vomit. Example: He was in the car and he threw up twice.

  • Take off: Remove something. Example: When they took off the bandage, it was very painful.

  • Puff up – To swell, to become enlarged. Example: The patient complained that his face puffed up after taking the medications.
