Separable phrasal verbs are a fundamental part of English that you need to master to improve your comprehension and fluency in the language. They comprise a verb and a preposition or adverbial particle that, together, have a different meaning from the original verb. The interesting thing about separable phrasal verbs is that, while they can be split, they don't always have to be, unless they are accompanied by a personal pronoun such as I, you, he, she, it, we, us, or they.
It is time to look at some practical examples to clarify the use of these verbs. The separable phrasal verb put on, meaning "to put on," is a good place to start. Consider the two ways we can use this verb:
Both ways are correct; the difference is whether we want to place the object between the verb and the particle, which is optional when there is no personal pronoun.
Another illustrative example is the verb turn down, which means "to reject". Let's see how sentences can be constructed:
Whether you choose to separate them or not depends entirely on the context and communication style you decide to employ.
Expanding your knowledge of phrasal verbs will increase your confidence in using English. Here is a list of some common and practical separable phrasal verbs:
These verbs will not only help you understand colloquial English better, but will also allow you to communicate more effectively.
To reinforce the knowledge you have acquired, practice is key. Try rewriting sentences with the aforementioned phrasal verbs, making sure to try both the non-separable and separable structure. For example:
Remember that regular practice will make a big difference in your ability to use these verbs correctly. Keep going and don't give up! Continued practice will strengthen your command of the language and open you up to new learning opportunities.

According to what Professor Gina explained, I found this article that says:
The phrasal verb must be separate when you use a pronoun such as him, he, it, then or any other pronoun in the sentence:
Correct: the team leader immediately picked it up after the whistle was blown.
Incorrect: the team leader immediately picked up it after the whistle was blown
(Pick up is a separable phrasal verb).
