Implementing a DesignOps action plan is not only beneficial for the design team, but can also have a significant impact on the entire organization. This pivotal moment in the course marks the beginning of a practical implementation, based on the three key areas of Design Knobs: collaboration, work excellence and organizational impact.
The first essential step is to clearly identify the problem. This in-depth diagnosis involves gathering feedback and information from various stakeholders, both from the design team and external stakeholders. Some recommended strategies are:
Surveys: Conduct surveys of team members and stakeholders to understand their current concerns, risks and level of satisfaction.
Individual interviews: These allow to delve into the specific problems of each individual, helping to accurately document the design process.
The information collected allows the identification of critical points within the operation that require immediate attention. This makes it possible to create precise strategies to improve satisfaction and increase efficiency.
Once the problem has been identified, the next step is to look for opportunities for improvement. This involves defining where more value can be contributed to the organization. To do this:
Classification and analysis of pain: Group the problems identified in the surveys and interviews within the three areas of Design Knobs.
Roles and responsibilities: Clarify what roles within the team and among stakeholders will be involved in addressing these opportunities.
Identifying these areas provides a clear framework on how to leverage design operations and services. In addition, this allows for planning to meet strategic and tactical goals.
With the opportunity areas defined, it is time to formulate clear objectives. These should align at both the tactical and strategic levels. Here are some key steps:
Documenting evolution: detailing how these tactics will impact the opportunity areas over months or years, allowing for ongoing tracking.
Aligning tactics with objectives: Prioritize necessary actions in a roadmap, ensuring a systematic approach to addressing the most critical issues.
The roadmap should include a clear prioritization of problems, ensuring that the most significant pains are addressed first, and each action should be supported by well-defined tactics.
To support implementation, it is crucial to have appropriate tools that facilitate the organization and monitoring of the action plan. In this course, an Excel template has been provided which:
Allows recording each step, from conducting interviews to documenting areas for improvement.
Facilitates the organization, collaboration and humanization of the process, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned.
This template serves as a living document, designed to evolve as the team moves forward in executing and adjusting the action plan.
In conclusion, adopting this systematic approach not only optimizes design operations, but also promotes positive organizational change. Remember to download and use the template provided to structure and consolidate your action plan - success is just around the corner, go ahead and put what you have learned into practice!
