Exploring musical preferences can enrich any conversation. In this context, Mariana and Sam discuss their musical tastes, pointing out the techniques they use to express their preferences. Let's break down some of them!
In an everyday conversation, like the one Mariana and Sam have, we use comparative phrases to express our preferences. In the dialogue, some useful grammatical structures are highlighted:
More than....: Used to express that something is more preferred than another option.
Better than....: Used to indicate that something is valued over something else.
These constructions allow you to clarify preferences and help you have fluent conversations - you can see it's pretty simple!
Another useful technique that comes up in the talk is comparison through "not the same as." It is an effective way to highlight differences between two options:
This type of comparison is very effective in making clear distinctions and giving a broader context about our preferences.
Knowing and knowing how to express our musical preferences goes beyond personal tastes; it is a window to connect with others, better understand their inner worlds and even create shared experiences around music. Mariana and Sam exemplify how these conversations can lead to memorable experiences, such as deciding to attend a concert together.
In addition, the dialogue also suggests that music scenes, whether pop, rock, jazz, or EDM, fuse genres, are full of diversity, which further enriches our sonic choices and experiences. Jacob Collier, mentioned in the conversation, is a great example of this, combining varied genres in his work.
Reflecting on your own tastes can be not only didactic but also entertaining. It's comparing yourself with yourself and discovering what really ignites your musical spark. Are you up for sharing your preferences? For example:
Comment and share - we're eager to hear your thoughts and new perspectives that will further enrich this conversation!
Let's remember that every musical preference is unique and valuable - music connects us and has the incredible ability to bring hearts and experiences together!

Listening to jazz music is not the same as watching a live performance.
I prefer music to attending a concert. Although the concert is very exciting, I don’t like standing in line for many hours enduring crowds and inclement weather. As for my favorite musical genres, I think rock is better than pop.
Since my adolescence was marked by this genre and I like all the energy that its music has, also that its lyrics can be very poetic, pop is usually fun and energetic but also a little boring 🥱 since it is very commercial and some songs They are very similar to others, the lyrics are not usually very interesting.
