Zoom Out: La nueva herramienta de Midjourney

We already know that Midjourney has an artistic and hyper realistic image generation capability on another level and has positioned itself as one of the greatest image generation tools on a professional level. 😃

Now this flagship tool comes with a new feature in version 5.2: Zoom out.

What is Midjourney Zoom Out?

It is a feature that allows you to do out-painting in a simple way and with amazing results. You can zoom out 1.5x and 2x, and you can also customize it.

Although Midjourney is not a pioneer in generating images with text, as Stable Diffusion and Dalle 2 did, it managed to create a functionality that preserves the artistic quality that made Midjourney the leader in image generative Artificial Intelligence.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to take advantage of this new tool.

How to use Mid Journey Zoom out?

The process is quite simple, you just have to generate a grid of images using the 5.2 version of the tool.

Then you must UPSCALE the image you want to work on. You will be presented with the Zoom Out options available so far: 1.5 x, 2 x and custom.

1. Generate the grid of images you want. As an example, we will use a simple prompt such as "an astronaut on the beautiful space". Remember to add version 5.2 to the parameters to give you the Zoom option.

2. Then, perform UPSCALE on the chosen image. In this case option 3.

3. When doing UPSCALE new options will appear, including the Zoom options. In this case I will select Zoom Out 2x.

4. And this is the result: again 4 new images created with out painting taking as reference the original image.

How to use the Custom Zoom function?

On the other hand, in addition to the 1.5x and 2x options, you have the option to perform Custom Zoom.

For this purpose, Midjourney allows you to modify the initial prompt to include additional elements to the image. It also allows you to give a specific value between 1 and 2 for the zoom out: just type it in the text box.

Adding "a huge UFO" to the previous image, this is the result:

Similarly, using the arrows in the result image I can zoom out in a specific direction, keeping the rest of the image in its original state.

How to play with prompts and zoom out?

One advantage of zoom out is to be able to modify the initial prompt and customize it, completely changing the resulting image.

Let's do a test by modifying the prompt and typing "A framed picture on the wall".
