Redimensionamiento de Máquinas Virtuales

How to manage the size of a virtual machine effectively?

Managing the size of a virtual machine is crucial to optimize its performance and costs. Selecting the right configuration from the start helps to balance resources and expenses, but what if your needs change after a while? Below, we'll explore how you can adjust the size of your virtual machine to make sure it fits your current requirements without compromising efficiency.

What to consider before resizing the virtual machine?

Resizing your virtual machine may be necessary when you notice that it is too fast, too slow, or if you need more or less hardware resources. Before resizing, consider:

  • The current category: Identify whether it was initially created in a standard category, D1V2, D2V2, etc.
  • Hardware needs: Evaluate whether you really need to upgrade or downsize hardware, which directly affects performance.
  • Impact on IPs and storage: By stopping the machine, you can change its assigned public IP address. Also, downsizing could lead to data loss if it contains large amounts of storage.

How to resize a virtual machine?

To resize your virtual machine, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the machine: It is necessary to shut down the virtual machine before resizing it.
  2. Select a new configuration: While stopped, choose a new category and hardware configuration. For example, opt for a category B M2 VM that offers 8 GB of RAM and four data disks.
  3. Check the cost: Be sure to check the cost of the new size, which can be monthly or hourly.
  4. Restart the machine: After the adjustment, all that remains is to turn the machine back on to apply the changes.

What precautions to take when resizing a virtual machine?

When resizing, it is essential to take into account:

  • Data loss: If you reduce storage significantly, you could lose data without warning.
  • Review configurations: After resizing and rebooting, verify that the configurations are correct and that your virtual machine is operating smoothly.
  • Impact on services: Make sure that all services dependent on the IP address or other parameters are still operational after the change.

How to optimize budget and resources?

Once the effectiveness of the resizing is confirmed, you can return to the original category or opt for a more suitable one to save costs without affecting performance. Making informed decisions about sizing and configuration will help maintain a balance between budget and efficiency.

Always review and adjust your needs over time. This way, you can continue to get the most out of your virtual machine environment without wasting resources or impacting your operations.

https://learn.microsoft.com/es-es/azure/virtual-machines/resize-vm?tabs=cli

perfecto.

Muy bien!

Muy interesante Azure

que bien
