Adding Comments about People

15/21
Recursos

  • Who/That: Usamos Who o That cuando la persona es el sujeto de la oración (he, she, we, they).
  • Whom/That: Usamos Whom o That cuando la persona es el objeto de la oración (him, her, us, them).
  • Whose: Usamos Whose para hablar de una persona en forma posesiva (his, her, our, their).

La diferencia entre Who/That y Whom/That es la formalidad de utilizar cada palabra. Utilizar That es menos formal, pero el significado es el mismo en ambos casos.

Veamos algunos ejemplos con Who:

  • The neighbor who has the angry car is moving out.
  • Who has the angry cat?
  • He/She has the angry cat.

  • The girl who has 4 sons is having a baby girl.
  • Who has 4 sons?
  • She has 4 sons.

Veamos algunos ejemplos con Whom:

  • The man whom I interviewed for the job was not qualified.
  • Who did I interview?
  • I interviewed him.

  • The barista whom I ordered from gave me the wrong coffee.
  • Who did I order from?
  • I ordered from him/her.

Veamos algunos ejemplos con Whose:

  • The man whose brother is the world champion won the Olympic gold.
  • Who is the world champion?
  • His brother is the world champion.

  • The neighbor whose baby is always crying is pregnant.
  • Who is always crying?
  • Her baby is always crying.

Como habrás observado, puedes hacerte preguntas que contesten a quién estás haciendo referencia con las palabras Who, Whom o Whose y de esta forma tener más claridad de cuándo usar cada una.

This How to add extra information about people by using the words WHO, WHON, WHOSE and THAT.

  • USE:
  1. WHO/THAT: subject (he, she, we, they).
“The neighbor WHO/THAT has the angry cat is moving out”. We’re using WHO/THAT to add additional information about the SUBJECT (who has the angry cat?) .
WHO is more formal and THAT is less formal.

  2. WHOM /THAT: indirect object (him, her, us, them). When we’re gonna be talking about the object of our sentence.
“The man WHOM I interviewed for the job was not qualified”. Who did I interview? I interviewed HIM. So the word WHOM is replacing the word HIM.

  3. WHOSE: possessive (his, her, our, their).
“The man whose brother is the world champion won the Olympic gold”. Who is the word champion? HIS brother is the world champion.

i dont understand how to ask to know if my answer is correct
I dón't know who may need this but the quetions thing was a little tricky to me, then I got it! you have to formulate the question **based on the additional information** of the sentance. If the aswer is formulated with ***he, him or his+the aditional information*** you use who, whom or whose as its mention in the video. The important part is to formulete the question and answer with the additional information basically.

Who was interviewew for the job?
He was
To whom belongs the angry cat?
To Him

Who are you going to the concert with?
Whom did you ask for help with the project?
Whose dog is barking so loudly?

I saw that with “whom”, indicate an interaction with another subject. Always. And like an any kind of proof you can do a question:
1 subject + verb + 2 subject(object, him, her, etc.)
another way of proof could be, changing who with him, her, them, us…
