Adverbs of place and motion

Los adverbios son palabras que modifican el significado de un verbo, un adjetivo u otro adverbio. Dependiendo del contexto, una palabra puede ser adverbio de lugar o adverbio movimiento.

• Los adverbios de lugar indican dónde sucede algo.
• Los adverbios de movimiento indican una dirección específica de desplazamiento.

Adverbios comunes

Abroad

• He’s living abroad. (lugar)
• He’s going abroad on vacation. (movimiento)

Away

• She’s away right now. (lugar)
• She’s going away for the weekend. (movimiento)

Here

• My family is here for the weekend. (lugar)
• Come here, please!. (movimiento)

There

• He will be there next year. (lugar)
• We’re going there in a minute. (movimiento)

Inside / Outside

• I’m staying inside today. (lugar)
• I’m going to take the dog outside. (movimiento)

In / Out

• Nobody answers the door. I think they’re not in. (lugar)
• We’re going out tonight. (movimiento)

Upstairs / Downstairs

• The bathroom is upstairs. (lugar)
• I’ll go downstairs and check the door! (movimiento)

Up / Down

• The cat is up there! (lugar)
• Put that box down, please. (movimiento)

Anywhere

• She could be anywhere. (lugar)
• Let’s go anywhere and have some fun! (movimiento)

Somewhere

• The keys are somewhere in the room. (lugar)
• Let’s go somewhere else to talk! (movimiento)
