Indefinite pronouns are used to refer to people, places, or things in a general way, without specifying exactly who or what they are. When we use indefinite pronouns with the prefix “every,” they refer to all members of a group. These pronouns are:

  • Everyone refers to all people in a group.
  • Everything refers to all things in a group.
  • Everywhere refers to all places in a group.

Examples:

  • Everyone in the meeting was laughing.
  • Everything on the table is going to be used for the event.
  • Everywhere in the city is busy during rush hour.

Indefinite pronouns always take a singular verb.

  • “Everything is great.”
