A gerund is the -ING form of a verb that functions as a noun. When a gerund acts as the subject of a sentence, it is the main focus of the sentence.

Example:

Testing is crucial to identify and fix defects in software.

Here, "Testing" is the subject of the sentence.

Understanding gerunds

Gerunds as Subjects:Did you know that verbs ending in "ING" can work as subjects in a sentence? These verbs, known as gerunds, function as nouns.
Example 1:"Designing is my favorite part of the job."Here, "designing" is the subject; it's what the sentence is about.
Example 2:"Analyzing data helps in making better decisions."In this sentence, "analyzing" is the subject.
Singular Verb Rule:Gerunds always take a singular verb.Correct: "Talking is something Emily is really good at."Incorrect: "Writing are something she is very good at."

¿Qué pasa si uso verbos en plural?

Si intentas usar un verbo en plural romperás la concordancia gramatical, ya que la regla de oro dicta que la acción en sí misma siempre se cuenta como una sola entidad. Piensa en la acción como si fuera una caja; si dices Analizar datos complejos toma tiempo, no importa cuántos datos haya dentro, la caja sigue siendo una sola. Por lo tanto, mantén siempre el enfoque en la acción principal y acompáñala con un verbo en singular para que tu idea suene natural y correcta.
