Resumen
Could es un verbo modal que se lo utiliza en las siguientes situaciones:
- Verdades generales en el pasado: expresan hechos que eran ciertos o sucesos que siempre sucedían.
- Acciones frecuentes: se refiere a un evento o actividad que es constante o habitual; ocurre con frecuencia en el pasado o en el presente.
Aunque se pueda utilizar could en acciones frecuentes en el presente, lo más correcto es utilizar el verbo modal can.
Ejemplos utilizando could
- When I was a kid, I could play soccer all the weekends with my friends. (general truth in the past)
- Sometimes, when I’m hungry, I could get a little bit angry. (frequent occurrence in the present)
- 10 years ago, after taking my university classes, on Fridays I could go and have a drink with my friends. (frequent occurrence in the past)
