Usas tu oído para interpretar esa señal y dices: Are you okay? You sound tired. Otro caso: alguien cocina cerca de ti, percibes el aroma y comentas: You're a great cook. This food smells delicious [01:35]. En ambos ejemplos, el sentido guía la descripción.
¿Cuándo debo usar un adverbio en lugar de un adjetivo?
Aquí viene un detalle que muchos estudiantes pasan por alto. Si lo que quieres describir es la manera en que alguien usa un sentido, no puedes recurrir a un adjetivo. Necesitas un adverbio.
Mira la diferencia: She listened carefully to the teacher. La palabra carefully describe cómo escuchó, no qué percibió. Si dijeras She listened careful, estarías cometiendo un error gramatical.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre adjetivo y adverbio con sense verbs? El adjetivo describe la cosa o persona percibida (sounds tired). El adverbio describe la acción de percibir (listened carefully).
¿Por qué los sense verbs no se usan en forma continua?
Los verbos sensoriales pertenecen a la categoría de stative verbs, es decir, verbos que expresan impresiones o estados, no acciones en progreso [02:20]. Por eso no admiten la forma continua con ing.
Decir This is smelling great suena incorrecto para un hablante nativo.
