The simple future is a verb tense used to talk about things that haven´t happened yet. So, simple future refers to actions that will begin and end in the future.
Example:
- I will travel to Colombia.
- It will be challenging, but he is committed to doing it.
The simple future is used to express a spontaneous decision.
Example:
- I will buy it right now!
- I will finish my project tomorrow.
- We will go to the party.
In addition, the simple future is also used to predict a future event.
Example: - It will be sunny tomorrow.
- They will arrive at noon.
What is the structure of the simple future?
Subject + will + Infinitive + complement.
Example:
- She will clean the house tomorrow.
- Antonio will visit you tonight.
What is the structure of a negative simple future?
Subject + will not / won´t + infinitive + complement.
Example:
- Mario won´t eat pizza.
- Ana will not approve it.
Note: It doesn´t matter if the subject is plural or singular; the modal verb “will” doesn´t change
How to ask a question using simple future?
Will + subject + infinitive + complement + ?
Example:
- Will Marco finish the homework on time?
- Will Fabiola buy the dinner?
What are the contractions in the simple future?
- I will = I’ll
- You will = you’ll
- He will = he’ll
- She will = she’ll
- It will = it´ll
- We will = we’ll
- They will = they’ll
- Will not = won’t
Note: The form “it will” is not normally shortened.
What´s the difference between using “going to” and “will”?
- “Will” is more formal and is used in academic writing.
- “Going to” is more informal. It is used in speech and casual writing.
