The commitment curve and the 4 levels of participation are closely linked to the life of a member in a community, describing the extent of his or her commitment and participation in the community.
Of course, the levels of participation are given by the user's experience in the social identity cycle:* Identification * Participation * Validation.
The 4 levels of participation in a community
The way in which we can broadly take the types of users that join our community are the following.
1. Passive members
The passive members level refers to users who do not participate much in the community. What is special about this category is that we have all been passive members in the past, when it is our first time in a social gathering and we do not know how to handle interactions and customs.
2. Active members
Active members refer to users who participate in the community's activities constantly, through questions, answers and feedback.
3. Power members
The category of power members refers to those who participate in all community activities and have a genuine intention to improve the community.
4. Leaders
The role of leaders is the most demanding category, because they must be interacting, receiving feedback, creating new activities, moderating, guiding the ambassadors, among others. Therefore, it is the level that contributes the most to the community.
How to apply the 4 levels of engagement
For users to have a good experience in the social identity cycle and to be able to move through the curve and levels of participation, the first participations of users with the community or brand should be easy to complete and with a good intangible reward system.
In addition, it is important that all users can go through the 4 levels of participation, so that there is some breathing space between those who contribute the most and those who are interested in contributing.
Importance of the commitment curve and the 4 levels of participation
The importance of the commitment curve and the 4 levels of participation lies in the fact that users can contribute and develop as much as possible in the community, through the ease of moving through each of the levels and having a good experience in the cycle of social identity.
