La prueba máxima para deletrear palabras en inglés ha terminado. De 733 personas inscritas, 200 avanzaron a la segunda fase gracias a sus altos puntajes en el test clasificatorio. Acá les contamos cómo se desarrolló la competencia y quienes se quedaron con las medallas.
El pasado lunes 1 de Marzo nos dividimos en 8 grupos para jugar la ronda inicial del spelling bee. Cada participante escogía una palabra de manera aleatoria, esta era pronunciada y usada en una oración. A partir de ese momento, nuestros atletas tenían 20 segundos para deletrear. Había mucho nerviosismo. El nivel era realmente muy alto.
Algunas palabras eran relativamente fáciles de deletrear, como pitch, y otras muy difíciles como mayonnaise.
Solo 5 atletas avanzaron a la ronda final. Su talento es innegable y tienen toda nuestra admiración.

Preparamos un listado de 120 palabras y solo la suerte determinó el nivel de dificultad en cada turno. Afortunadamente nadie tuvo que deletrear la más difícil de nuestra lista: Antidisestablishmentarianism.

Queremos felicitar absolutamente a todas las personas que participaron. Estamos seguros que desde la fase inicial, con el test de inglés, pusieron a prueba sus conocimientos y reforzaron sus aprendizajes.
Las Olimpiadas continúan y si una de sus fortalezas es el Inglés, asegúrense de inscribirse en la competencia Ignite Dive, cuyas características serán anunciadas mañana 4 de marzo a través de un blogpost.

Me sentí bastante seguro cuando realicé el examen para participar. Pero desde que inició la primera ronda aún no era mi turno y ya habían salido varias palabras que no tenía ni idea de como se deletreaban, aún sabiendo bien lo que significaban, no pasé la primera ronda. Entendí que “deletrear” es un nivel totalmente diferente y abismal en la comprensión de un idioma que no es nativo. Bastante frustrante pero interesante.

La verdad sí hubo algunas fáciles pero como todo, a veces te pueden tocar las más complicadas y bye…

Congratulations to the participants of the spelling bee, It was very fun and I think that all the people learned something, for me the things that learned are, first I need to practice more and have a better vocabulary, second don’t confuse the letters a, e, i at the moment of spelling, third more confidence and get out all the nerves, fortunately Platzi have a course for each issue, but at least we tried or not ?

oh c’mon!, “Antidisestablishmentarianism” (Wikipedia), really?, just by seeing the word first thing came up to my mind was the reaction of Rebecca Sealfon at the 1997 Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition, final round, when asked to spell the word “nomothetic”, you’ve got to watch her reaction after more than 3 minutes figuring out how to spell it … I cannot imagine the face of the one hearing for the first time that word and thinking on how to spell it! ROFL! … I gave it a try, and after 1 minute I got lost at the final part of the word … gosh! ROFL!!!
… still thinking on that word … in 20 secs!? 🤯 … I’m gonna have bad dreams about it, and with the word I failed (that it’s chasing me in my dreams since that day) … “alignment”! 👻 … really!?!?!? … yep (you can guess where I put an additional “n”) … s#17 happens! 🤦🏻♂️ hahahahah 🤪
