Nice class! I had never seen the concept of parallel elements before and I find it curious and interesting.

I'm not too sure about my answers...

The researchers disputed not only the data report but also the researchers disputed the official findings.
The bank's statement described a growing economy and the bank's statement presented important figures.

Good answers David. Remeber you can omitt the second use of the words in bold in all your examples. 😎👍

Freddy Peñate Goberna

If we can omit (in this case) the second use of the words in bold, then what is the purpose of using parallelism? To talk/ write more?

Andres Nelson Aguirre Mamani

The researchers disputed not only the data report but also disputed the official findings. The bank’s statement described a growing economy and presented important figures.

Pedro Alvarado Garcia

The researchers disputed not only the data report but also disputed the official findings.

Corrected: The researchers disputed not only the data report but also the officials' findings.
Explanation: Both parts after "not only" and "but also" should have the same structure, so the repeated "they disputed" is removed for parallelism. Corrected: The bank's statement described a growing economy and presented important figures.
Explanation: The sentence is parallel by removing the unnecessary "it" to make both verbs ("described" and "presented") consistent in structure.

Quick question:

"The malls in the city are bigger than in rural towns" Is this not right or just doesn't follow the parallelism rule? If it's not right, can you explain to me why?

Andres David Espinel Ballesteros

The researchers disputed not only the data report but also the researchers disputed the official findings.
The bank’s statement described a growing economy and the bank’s statement presented important figures. I'm not sure, can you gime a hand , please ? teacher

This is pretty good. On the first one I would say: 'The researchers disputed not only the data report, but also the official findings.' On the second one: 'The bank’s statement described a growing economy and presented important figures.'

Denis Picén

@Rene Francisco Lora Gonzalez I'm confused about the answer of the first sentence, shouldnt it be "The researchers disputed not only the data report but also disputed the official findings" since the example of "The soccer player wants not only fame but also wants glory" is the same case? or am I missing something?

My answers to the call to action: * The researchers disputed not only the data report but also disputed the official findings. I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to improve the second phrase.

Rene Francisco Lora Gonzalez

Profesor

Nice try Daniel. Remember there are elements in the sentence that we should not repeat due to stylistic reasons. Which elements repeat in those exercises? 🤔 Could we remove one of them? 😉

Jackelyn Julissa

The researchers disputed not only the data report but also disputed the official findings. The bank’s statement described a growing economy and presented important figures.

The key element behind all parallel structures is grammatical consistency. This means that elements within a sentence that express similar functions or ideas must be in the same grammatical form.

If one part of a sentence uses a gerund, all parts should use gerunds; if one part uses an infinitive, all should use infinitives. This alignment creates clarity and balance in the sentence, which is essential for effective communication.
