hello teacher, I have a question, What is the diferent between discuss and debate?
A discussion is an exchange of ideas to explore a topic or reach an agreement. A debate is a formal contest where you use complex arguments to prove your side is right. Learn more in "Debate" and "Justifying your perspective".
I really liked the way that you explain.
You do a really good job thx
I appreciate that Alina, thank you for that!

It is the first course of Platzi, that could be considered as C1 level .

I really liked this course!
Thank you for that Vivian! Much appreciated! :)
Being interested in passing the course, I was able to learn from your excellent classes. Thanks!!!!!!!
Thank you very much, because I learned a lot in this course like politely vocabulary the kind of vocabulary to interrupt in a politely way cause this vocabulary help us to connect ideas or describe problems and solutions.
And also in some classes I practiced my listening skill to analize some situation and learned the correct words to use in specific situation in a polite way.
In one of the exam answers "What is the main objective of a debate" I repeated the exam three times and these were the previous answers that I selected for each attempt. 1. To open your mind to new perspectives. (Was incorrect) 2. To understand your opponent's argument. (Was incorrect) 3. To have a good time. (Was also incorrect).
So if the previous answers were all incorrects, only this answer would be the correct "To win a debate"?
It is hilarious 😂 because I didn't expect that answer as the right one and I was avoiding it.
Maybe is an issue?
OR
Is really the right answer?
In the first class, when discussing the difference between discussion and debate, the concepts were clear about it. Basically, in a debate, you are competing, so your only interest is winning, not changings one´s position, nor learning 😅 If you are focused on listening, understanding the other's perspective and learning, that's a discussion 🥲
Thank you!
How can I practice polite interruptions daily?
The best way to master polite interruptions is to actively listen during your daily meetings or casual conversations and wait for a natural pause. Instead of jumping in abruptly, use transitional phrases like "If I may add to that point..." or "Excuse me for a moment, I'd like to build on what you just said." You can practice this in low-stakes environments, such as discussions with friends or family, before applying it in high-stakes professional settings. Recording yourself during mock debates or participating in active discussion forums can also help you gauge your tone and timing, ensuring your contributions are seen as collaborative rather than disruptive.
excellent teacher, it is one of the best courses I've taken on Platzi
