So why English for Finance?

Today, there are over 6500 spoken languages in the world. So, with such a huge selection of languages, why learn English? More specifically, why learn English for finance? Let’s explore some of the main reasons for choosing English.

English is the official language of 53 countries. But let’s put these in perspective. If you were to travel to six countries each year, it would take you nine years to visit all the countries in which the official language is English. So, by learning English, you gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, way of living, food and people.

Over 400 million people in the world speak English as their first language. What’s more, English is the official “second language” of the world. This makes English one of the most useful languages to learn.

What does this mean when it comes to job opportunity, especially in the area of finance?

Companies are becoming more international and English is listed as a required skill for jobs in finance. Would you like to increase your chance of being hired by a multinational corporation or work abroad? Would you like to give your career a boost? Then keep learning English.

Let’s turn our attention to the subject of finance.

Finance largely deals with numbers. But numbers are not limited to finance. We deal with numbers from the moment we wake up until we go to sleep every day of our lives. Why do I say this? When you woke up this morning, did you look at the time? Or did you wake up to an alarm that you have set to a specific number each morning? Numbers dictate when we go to work, eat, drive, retire etc. Numbers also give meaning to a huge amount of financial data. Finance is one of oldest careers known to mankind as it deals with raising, managing and saving money. Finance enters our lives from childhood and continues long after we are gone. Do you remember getting allowance money when you were a child? Or did you start doing small jobs like babysitting or cutting grass for your neighbors? As an adult, have you inherited money because a loved one left you money for your education or for travel?
My point is this, improving on one of the widely spoken languages, English, and learning about finance will improve your life, career and adventures.
