Hear of: To become aware or learn that something or someone exists.
Hear about: To be informed of something or someone.

  • Heard of
    • to become aware or learn that something or someone exists
      • Have you heard of that new restaurant they’re building
      • I’ve never heard of it
  • Heard about
    • Means to be informed of, gain knowledge of
      • Have you heard about john’s girlfriend
      • I heard about a new restaurant downtown

The concept of “hear of” and “hear about” refers to the act of receiving information or news about something or someone. Here is the explanation in English:

  1. "Hear of":
  • Structure: Subject + “hear of” + noun or pronoun.
  • Usage: It is used to indicate that someone has learned about the existence of something or someone for the first time.
  • Example in a series: In the show “Friends”, in the episode “The One Where Everybody Finds Out”, Phoebe says: “I can’t believe nobody heard of me, I’m like a local celebrity!”
  1. "Hear about":
  • Structure: Subject + “hear about” + noun or pronoun.
  • Usage: It is used to indicate that someone has received information or heard about the details or events related to something or someone.
  • Example in a movie: In the film “The Social Network”, the character of Mark Zuckerberg says: “I heard about this new website called Facebook. I want to see what it’s all about.”

What’s the difference between HEAR OF and HEAR ABOUT.

HEAR OF means to become aware or learn that something or someone exists. For example:
Have you heard of that new restaurant they’re building? (Did you know that this new restaurant is going to exist?).
I’ve never heard of it (I didn’t know this restaurant was going to exist).

HEAR ABOUT means to be informed of or gain knowledge of. The main difference between hear about and hear of is that when you say hear about it’s because someone else told you about this. For example:
Have you heard about John’s girlfriend? (did someone tell you about what happened to her?)

What’s the difference between HEAR OF and HEAR ABOUT.

  • HEAR OF means to become aware or learn that something or someone exists. For example:
Have you heard of that new restaurant they’re building? (Did you know that this new restaurant is going to exist?).
I’ve never heard of it (I didn’t know this restaurant was going to exist).

  • HEAR ABOUT means to be informed of or gain knowledge of. The main difference between hear about and hear of is that when you say hear about it’s because someone else told you about this. For example:
Have you heard about John’s girlfriend? (did someone tell you about what happened to her?)
