Some meanings of idioms:

  • State of the art: the most up-to-date, the latest technology.
  • In the long run: is another way to say eventually or over a period of time. Ex, In the long run, we will be able to meet demands, but now we are running behind.
  • Well-oiled machine: means to say something that runs or operates very well or very smoothly. It can be with people too.
  • Cutting edge: it means the latest, greatest version.

  • State of the art: describes something that has been constructed/made with all the latest technology (very modern + up-to-date)
  • Cutting edge: describes a revelatory creation. Something more original, which hasn鈥檛 been designed/done before. It could be a scientific breakthrough.
